Blood donor?

When I made Gypsy's spay appointment, I told the receptionist that Max is available for blood donations if he is needed. She replied "Wow you really are nervous, aren't you?!" I told her that I wasn't offering him only for Gypsy but that I know that emergencies do and can happen and that since he is a big healthy dog that loves the vets that he is available. I wouldn't want anybody to lose their dog when he could help. I then called another vet that has emergency facilities that we have used a couple of times on Saturdays, and told them the same, that he is available if needed. Should I contact any others or just these that I use?

Good for you! A blood transfusion can mean the difference between life and death during a critical surgery. This being said, not all veterinary practices are equiped to properly administer a blood transfusion nor have the correct equipment to do so. I personally would limit my dogs availability to practices where I have an existing relationship or first hand knowledge of the staff and their proceedures.

Thanks, I will keep it to the two that I am comfortable with. That's neat that the vet has 2 animals in house to help if needed.
