Ben's Getting Old

Is he on any meds for his stiffness? Have you tried Microlactin? This is what elderly Gracie takes and she is doing really well at the moment

Arthur groans a bit so his Mum has sent him from England some GlycoFlex to try.

The others are on Glucosamine.
Microlactin seems to help Cooper's stiffness, which is sporadic but happens often enough after not having had any sort of incident that I think he might be getting a bit of arthritis. I did not notice any change in Zuzu with microlactin but Adequan did help her. They both get Glucosamine.

I can't even imagine not having them both by my side. :(

Not in a couple years. That's an idea.

But I've never had a Newfie live longer than 10 years; Max went 9 1/2, and Morgan 10 yrs and 2 months, so 8 *seems* old to me.

I have too heard they are the same. I always wondered if it is slightly cheaper times 3 of the 1 year dose. The one thing here, is you can get the city/county registration right at most local vets. It is $10 for one year and $30 for 3 year for a altered pet. No savings there, but since goverenments keep wanting to make more $$$ on fees etc, I suspect someday they will try to make a big jump. Seems to me they really went after those with intact pets not all that long ago with a steep increase like $35 to $50 a year
Unaltered pets are $125. Unless you can show they are show dogs, then it's the regular fee.

Last night I asked my daughter if she had fed the puppy yet. Then it hit me that the "puppy" will be 4 in June ( you're all invited to her b-day party, by the way!) and in September it'll be 5 years since I lost my lab, and I got all kinds of sad.

Then Maggie danced through the kitchen with my flip-flop, and I forgot it all. :uglyhammer:

Ben isn't old, I think of him as dignified, whereas my Maggie has none. He was born with an old soul and I bet is just chock full of sage advice, if he could just tell us!

I love Ben.

He might feel better with a little weight off, but I wouldn't give up on him yet. He may just be an elder statesman - that's what he reminds me of. My vet gave me the talk (about Echo) when she was 8-1/2, saying I needed to prepare myself for putting her down. We did it just past her 13th birthday!

Elder statesman or old soul may be right. I hope so. I'm ok with him not being active as long as there's no pain involved. We walked in the woods today after an all-day rainfall. He was knee deep in water puddles and then went swimming in the river.

He's been snoozing ever since. :)

I know how hard their slowing down can be. At almost 13 Maple is content to lie around almost all day but it still so psyched for food, daily marrow bones, and snuggles so I know she's happy. Try not to dwell on it, heck, he isn't - that gorgeous boy knows how good he's got it with such an awesome mom!
