Ben and his Icy River

So we took our usual mid-afternoon walk through the woods, back to the river, and found it somewhat frozen. Ben ventured out on the ice a bit, checking it out (pardon the cell-phone pictures):

Not to be daunted, he entered the river as usual:

Only to realize, he couldn't climb out. His front paws scrabbled at the ice; his back end not strong enough to lift himself out:

Not to worry; it's only a couple feet deep. Mom called him over to where it comes up to the banks very gradually and he walked out and had a good shake:

I think he's still in motion here, as his nose is small and his body gigantic. He is thinking, "I'll be back tomorrow, river. Mom has a warm towel waiting for me at home now!"

At the first picture I thought oh no...he's gonna fall through the ice. Then I saw how he let himself into the river. Geez, for a second I must have forgotten he was a Newf. I still can't believe they'd do this willingly.

Made me shiver just thinking about it. If Ben can brave the cold, maybe Moose can follow in his footsteps! Oh Ben, you and your big jowls are a sight to behold...
