 Scarlet has discovered a tasty new snack....ACORNS!!
Does anyone know if acorns are-
1. Dangerous/hazardous to a Newf's health?
2. Nutritious?
3. Nutritionally inert?
Scarlet has successfully angered all the squirrels within a 10 mile radius by finding their hidden treasures:run:

I think they can be toxic in large numbers. I do recall they cause stomach upset and diarrhea. They contain a tannin that can be toxic to the kidneys. I may be wrong but I think I recall it depends on whether they are green or brown, and how large a quatity they ingest. I'd have to google it again. Again, you say? Why, yes, because LuLu discovered the succulent treats and ate a whole bunch before I realized what she was snarfing off the ground.

Sherman also likes this tastey little snacks. I try to rake/pick them up as much as I can, but he still sometimes gets a couple because they fall off the trees so darn fast and I think the squirrels are on strike.
We haven't had any issues with him getting sick, yet.
I started spraying bitter apple spray on some of them when I see him snacking and this has seemed to deter him for now.

With Obie its leaves, leaves, leaves! If I had a buck for every leaf I'd dug out of his mouth I'd be able to buy his real food for months!

Be careful with oak leaves, apparently they can be more toxic than the acorns. For LuLu it's pine cones, oye, my front yard is a pine grove.
