Anyone in the Harrisburg, PA area?

My son is getting out of the Marine corps at the end of this month and will be working in New Cumberland. I am looking for information about the area. Safe places to live? Things to do? They have not found a place to live and do have 2 big dogs so the place would need to be pet friendly! Any advice? Thanks!

Turkey Hill Dairy is down in Lancaster and that was always a fun place to go.

My mom grew up in Lancaster, and my aunt and uncle on my dad's side live a bit further away in Oxford. They don't have tons to do down there in Oxford, but there is a lot of Amish around and visiting their shops can be fun.
