Anyone feed Sardines?

Has anyone had issues with feeding their Newfie sardines? I have always spoiled my Lab by putting stuff on top of his kibble. :grrr: Now our new puppy has decided she wants his food - must smell or taste better? I gave her a small amount of sardines mixed into her kibble. Watching her scarf if down and lick the bowl it might have been puppy crack!

Tiika's on a 7 day protein rotation diet. She used to get 8 cans a day on her sardine day when she was growing, now at 5 years, she gets two cans at each meal (two meals/day) along with her 6oz of fruit/vegie puree. I only give ones canned in water or tomato juice - no soya oil.

Yes I feed them, the ones packed in water. Maybe 3 or 4 times per week. I've been doing this for years and never had a problem.
Good luck,
Marina

I started giving them to my pup when he was a few months old and got really low on his calcium when he was teething. He LOVES them. It's an easy way to sneak vitamins/supplements to your dog too. I put the supplements in his food, throw sardines on top - viola!

I am now using sardines to start the weaning process for pups as young as 12 days old. The smell of canned fish attracts them like nothing else. The beauty of sardines is that you can mash them so that a whelp without teeth can eat them. For pups I only use sardines in spring water (no added salt) and may add either warm water or goat milk but they seem to like it straight.

My oldest, Gander Bear, who is 10 years, 9 months, is currently getting four to five cans a day, along with fish based kibble and sockeye salmon oil. Sardines are great for mixing in with the kibble. Gander keeps going off his food but not when I add sardines.
