Anesthesia with seniors

My baby girl is now 10 and is having tooth issues I know she's uncomfortable and a green cloud follows her everywhere :-(. She's pretty healthy for 10-year-5 month but I'm scared of the Anesthesia. Anybody have some encouraging words ??

Thanks,

Our old boy Dexter had teeth extracted when he was 11. The anesthesia wore off a little slower and he was out for a full day but after that he was just fine. It is a scary thing but when they are in pain this is the only choice. Good luck to you.

I pay more and ask for a second vet to do th anesthesia, not as per usual the vet nurses or techs....has worked well for us

I always ask for a more detailed blood work. Instead of the usual pre-dental blood work I have them do a complete CBC and Profile. Costs a little more but well worth it for my crew.

Our vet and the vets at Tufts Vet School used a fast acting anesthesia so they snapped out of it pretty quickly and they were also aware that giant breeds like Newfs are very sensitive to it. Have a discussion with your vet First and good luck.

I have an 8 1/2 year old who could really use some dental work himself. Was warned by the breeder I rehomed him from that he has close relatives that DON'T handle anaesthesia well.

Maybe its possible to see if your dog can get tested with various types beforehand???
