Is my dog crazy?n She will sit and Lick at the air like it was an Ice Cream Cone. I can understand this if something is cooking, or if we are eating, but she will do this as we are watching TV. She loves giving kisses and cleaning herself and her sister but the air?

Don't know if this is the same thing, but I hear Kasper doing it at night when we are sleeping. It's like he's licking his lips. It's pretty loud.

When Gabe's allergies are bad and he's itchy the "air licks". I think his sinuses must itch and often as he scratches his tongue will be lapping away in the air.

Lapping away the air.. Yes, that's what it sounds like. The sound of the giant tongue tapping against the giant nostrils makes a drum.

my foster pup does that when he is 'excited'...if you scratch his chest, he starts do to that, peter makes an appearance, and the feet start to go.

Willis does this, but only when food is involved. If you're heating something in the microwave, he will strain to position his tongue on the left side of the microwave, almost against the wall. The smells must be more potent on the left side, because that is where he wants to lick the air until the microwave beeps and he backs up to see what's going to emerge.

I have noticed Sophie doing this a few times this summer...I had never seen her do it before...But allergens have been off the top of the charts here this year and I am thinking it is an allergy related thing. Like maybe her nose is stuffy and she's trying to clear her throat/nasal passages....

Yep Snuffles does that too, and gets his nose a lot, and has woke me up at night. Seems like it lasts minutes when he does it. Being the mean Dad I am, sometimes after he quits, I kiss him on the nose, and the process starts all over again.

"Air" licking can also be a sign of disease (neurological, dental, and a few others). I think you should mention it to your vet. Probably nothing, but still worth talking to the vet just in case.
