Agoraphobia????

Within the last month Sadie has developed a serious case of agoraphobia when it comes to training. She still works beautifully in the house but I can no longer get her any farther than the back porch when it comes to training outside. Needless to say this makes working on heeling patterns a bit of a challenge.

To my knowledge nothing has happened to frighten her outside. She'll go out to potty or play without a problem. The minute we head out to work though she tucks tail and heads for the door. Not sure if I'm doing the right thing but I don't let her run in. I keep her out on the porch and have her do some very basic commands (sit, down, touch etc).

The only thing I can think of is to keep working with her right by the door and then slowly try to get her back out into the grass. I'd really appreciate any other suggestions though.

Play, Play................make it fun. it sounds like it might be all work and no play. Of course i could be wrong. But take her out to the area and just play ball, tug or anything. And do very short bursts of training amongst all of this...........And when you decide to train do not feed before training/play and train with healthy treats (I use home cooked liver) when hungry. Even the play is for treats. Say all retrieves are for treats etc...........Good luck and most of all enjoy and have fun

She didn't have this problem at all before, did she? Does this have something to do with Piper's arrival? I agree with the others. Play, play, treat, play.

No Dianne - this is something new that's getting worse. It started before Piper came though. It's been so hot these last few weeks that we haven't been able to work outside much so I'm embarrassed to say that I didn't realize just how bad things had gotten.
