Came home today to a little mess in the floor. Lulu received a little package of pretty small mice from her secret santa and apparently Steely found them today and decided since Lulu hadn't opened them yet, she would. I can't find them anywhere, just the empty packaging, which obviously leads me to think that they are in her belly. They're more specifically a 5 pack of mini mice. I want to say that they were about an 1 1/2" in diameter.
This went down some time between noon and 4pm. She at dinner at 5:30pm with no problems and them proceeded to want to eat our dinner at 6pm. She's walking around, playing with her toys, drinking water and being her normal self as of yet. How freaked should I be & what do I need to be looking for? I know that if there's a blockage, she won't be able to poop... what else do I need to observe?
And do ya'll think I should be worried???

my opinion - and it's only an opinion - is that Steely could pass them... I'm familiar with the mice your talking about, and they would probably be partially digested, they're fur and cardboard, I don't think they are plastic, and even if they are, I still think a full grown Newf could pass them.... but keep an eye and if you're concerned, go to the Vet.

Dakota did something like this awhile back.... she ate an entire bandana, the really big ones, plus it had a knot in it from it being tied around her neck.

I called a few emergency vets and got opinions on what to do so that is my suggestion.

We ended up making dakota vomit at home and she threw the bandana right up, but i would call the emergency vet if your normal vet is closed. Try calling a few, some will tell you that you need to come in asap, while others will offer advice.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

Oh my goodness- I was hoping ya'll would chime in on this since you know exactly what I'm talking about. That makes me feel so much better. I've seen her pass a plastic toothbrush, so I'm sure (& praying) that this will be fine. I'll keep an eye on her regardless, though.
Thank you everyone for being so quick in your responses! XOXO!

Hmmmmmm, if they are fur and cardboard, not much might pass out yonder :)

Mine will eat almost a whole rabbit, with a lot of the fur insitu, and they eat whole fish, so I personally would not worry about a little mouse made of cardboard and fur. Plastic might be more of a worry as it does not digest.

The things that have come out of Bojie are beyond me, its like when they pull a shark up on the docks and open its stomach, and a million things fall out of them, including boots...
I have been worried too many times to count. So, I now know the warning signs:
Take Steely to the vet if: She stops having bowl movements, Stops eating or drinking, becomes lethargic, panting and drooling (more than usual) You will notice a definite change in her behavior if there is an obstruction.
Just keep watching her poop, and inspect it, so you know what comes out, and how much more has too. She may have some diarrhea too, thats normal.
These dogs certainly keep us on our toes, don't they!
