Advice about contacting breeder

I contacted a breeder this past Sunday and have not recieved a response. How long should I wait till I send another email? There isn't a phone number to call so that is out.

I noticed that the breeder has a litter that is probably going home about now so they must be very busy, I understand and don't want to piss them off.

I just want them to know that I am interested and not some random person emailing them.

Thanks for the advice

That is really hard question to answer - there is a different tolerance level for each person. When I was lookin gfor a pup some years ago, one breeder I was interested in, want me to call every few days, made me crazy because the time to call her was during the day and note easy for me to call then. Some people get annoyed at being contacted often like that.

JMHO, but it always bother me when the only means of contact is email. I like to also see a phone number and general location, like county or city & state. I understand people not wanting their exact location on the web.

Can't give advice except to say miracles happen and be patient. I know some expert breeders get exhausted and annoyed by really dumb newbie questions which they hear ad infinitum -- I'm guilty of all of those -- but the breeder meant for you will connect and be willing to communicate.

I use the "Search" feature here a lot to get answers via own research so I'm not the 138,495th question about the same thing :beatdeadhorse:

Yep I'd want general location, email, phone, Skype, and evidence the breeder has interest in the puppies, raises them well, and has ongoing relationships through the years with the pups' owners.

Getting a Newfie is a huge commitment, enormous investment and addition to the family.

Joan is right...all of the reputable breeders I know always have a phone number. The same for their web sights. I would be a little leery about a breeder who can only be contacted via email.

I know that when I have puppies I am barely on the computer but if this breeder cannot be contacted by phone that would be a red flag in my book.

I on the other hand prefer emails, as I can always type up a quick reply when I have the time for it and can always go back to what they've told me in the emails (later on after I know the family is a potential candidate for a puppy, the phonecalls become a part of the contacting).

I would email the breeder once more this weekend. If they do not reply after that, I would call them if I really were interested in exactly that breeder.

The website does not have a phone number. It is a reputable breeder. Got the info off of the Club of America website, also talked to a local club member to get a first hand opinion.

E-mails can get lots in a pile of e-mails, so i would e-mail again. It can't harm.

I'm with Capri on this. Try one more email, then see if you can give them a call. I'm sure they get a lot of emails, and sometimes it takes more than one. Perhaps that's how they know just how interested a person is? Or it could end up in Spam. I have many emails from Newf people that for some reason end up in Spam.

Also, have you spoken with Naomi Meyer? She's the Breeder Referral chair for the NCA. There's a number for you to call here:

This may sound crazy, but if you have an address, I would snail mail to the breeder. If they have an online questionaire, include it, along with some info about yourself, why you think you'd be a great Newf owner, and some snap shots of your home and yard.

The phone can be intrusive and it always seems to ring when you don't have time to answer it. Email can get lost in the a flood of junk. But nearly EVERYONE looks at their snail mail. It's something you sort of look forward to doing every day. And a letter would stand out, I think.

If the pups are going now to their new homes, most likely they have been spoken for, for a while. They may not be responding because nothing is available. But they should just drop you a quick note saying that. You could try another email, but it does seem a bit odd there is no phone # to contact them. You said you got a referral from someone in your club. Maybe they have a phone # or would know if there are pups available still. You may be better off finding another breeder that is easier to contact and will be having a litter in the near future, so you have time to visit and speak with them well beforehand.
