8 mo. old won't sleep

My 8 month old newf seems like he never sleeps. At night he moves around the bedroom constantly. He doesn't stay in one spot for more than 30 minutes. I thought pups were supposed to sleep alot! He is very energetic most of the day and evening. My first guy was total opposite, I thought there was something wrong with him because he slept so much. Does anyone else have this problem?

Is it possible he's hot?

I didn't get Ruby until she was 15 months or so but she's very very energetic. She does sleep well at night, but otherwise she's usually on the move most of the day.

But she's more restless at night if she's hot, as was my Maggie. We have a floor fan that helps a lot.

It is possible, I do run a ceiling fan, a window fan and a standup fan every night and sometimes the air if its real warm or humid...My husband even made him a slate bed to help keep him cool...nothing works it seems.

You can try shaving his belly. That will help keep him cooler. Have you combed out all his undercoat and/or puppy coat? That can make me him terribly hot. My Chase has been panting and uncomfortable so I combed out more of her undercoat and she is much better. A Mars Coat King is a great tool to remove undercoat. You can get one at www.groomersmall.com. Click on the store that says Mars Coat King. You want to purchase the 18 blade double wide. I suggest purchasing an extra set of blades.

None of those things worked for Maggie. She needed her own floor fan. Even once we got a/c.

We have slept all winter with the ceiling fan on and no heat in our bedroom. If our dogs get hot, they will move every couple minutes to find a cooler spot. We also have to have floor fans on for them in the summer. We actually have slept with our French doors open in 40 degree temps for them...

Massive floor fan, bellys tunneled out, cooling coats are all normal here, virtually no heating on most of the time unless it gets really cold.

Ours are huge bundles of energy too

Both my pups had me out in the yard at 11/12pm playing hide & seek, just trying to wear them out. Usually after that they slept the night threw. Good Luck!

When Taver was that age I was convinced he was actually a vampire. If the house is warmer than 68F both mine are restless at night fans or not.

Give him a good workout before bedtime and have him sleep somewhere that has a tile floor, and in our case AC ducts running under the floor. None of mine could ever sleep in our bedroom because of carpeted floors and bedrooms on the second floor, even with central air and a ceiling fan and a floor fan.
