1st Water Training with Tigger

First let me say, I'm VERY SORRY, but no pictures. Did have witnesses, but no photos :(

Tigger went for her first water Training today. I wasn't expecting much, as before my stroke last year, she didn't show a lot on interest, in fact she would have a fit if we tried to take her in.

Well today, she fooled everyone. She was a little tentative at first but in 5 minutes she was swimming like a little fish. Earlier, we had tried "Take it, hold it, give it" but she only wnated the cookies. Once she went back into the water, it was a different dog. Throw the bumper, went and got it, brought it back, and handed it to us (Judy was with). did this about 5-6 times. Then we tried throwing a life jacket out. Went after it like a rocket, brought it back, did this a couple of times. She was a little unhsure of how to grab the jacket but she did, and held it all the way in! WhooHoo!

We have a little floating dock there, it was suggested since it's shallow, and rocks like a boat, we should see if she would jump off, like on a boat. We did, She did! Then she went off the floating dock after her bumper and jumped really nicely and zoomed out and grabbed her bumber and brought it back.

Last thing we did was she and Judy took a ride on the boat. She just sat there like it wasn't nothing. When it got near the shallow part. they were going to beach the boat. Judy got off, and Tigger followed her in with a very nice jump. After that we stopped, we didn't want to wear her out.

I was majorly impressed. She must have been taking pointers from Ethel all winter. She sure didn't act like what we were thinking was going to happen. Looks like she's going to be a little Water Dog afterall.

If Judy is your only wittness I think you are conspiring to fool us all!

Actually we have a group of North Central Members that meet on Sunday's at a home which has a lake attached to it. We normally have about 15 people and about as many newfs. Everyone takes turned with their Newfs, in Jr/Sr/and WRDX when it's your turn everyone else helps as Stewards, and all the dogs get a lot of training time.

We are very fortunate as we have three dedicated training areas here, on different days of the week. In theroy, if you didn't work you could train 5 out of 7 days in this area. There are morning traniing times, and afternoon training times, at three different locations.

Wow! I'm jealous! The closest water training get togethers for me are a 6 hour drive away. I guess that's a predictable side effect of living in practically newf-free New Orleans.
