Heart stealers! I posted awhile back about the new boyfriend who had his doubts about sharing space with two hairy, slobbery beasts that blatantly ignore all concepts of personal boundaries. How dare you go to the bathroom alone?!?
I'm only writing this because I don't think he's found this corner of the internet yet...but Mike has been hooked, firmly, by the giant hearts of these big beasts. The moment I knew for sure was when he made them stockings...with hand-written notes addressed to each dog. I also walk in on baby talk and snuggles so often that I should probably be jealous. The other day he turned to me and said, "Don't get a big head, but I think River's probably the smartest dog I ever met." He's constantly teaching her new tricks. Like he'll ask her what grumpy people say, and she groans, moans and growls. It's hilarious. He's tolerating the hair and slobber with admirable grace.
My absolute favorite moment so far in watching him and the dogs figure each other out went like this:
I travel a lot for work, and he called me in a panic after a couple days. "River is refusing to eat! For the last two days she'll just sit by her bowl and refuse to eat!" I said, "What did you do about it?" He said, "Well, I put cheese on her food so she would eat it!" After I got done laughing, I told him that she had definitely figured him out. Just thought I'd share the joy that this brings me with you guys!
