Hi everyone, well since Jake had the penn hip done earlier this month the vet had told me he wants him skinny much to poor Jakes dismay :( since he loves his food  . Well I took him in for a weight check and he has lost 5lbs so now he is down to 93.4 vet said he wants to see a waist LOL on Jake. Karen I have Jake on all his supplements now at the strengths you gave me so time will tell. Just wanted to share the good news now if I could just lose some too LOL.

Brenda, Jake will be 7 months old on the 24th, and he is almost 28 inches at the shoulders already. He is a bigggggg boy.

Kodi was 103 lbs at 6 1/2 months and we were told to decrease his food intake. He too, loved to eat. He wasn't chunky because we could feel his ribs without pressing on his skin. Kodi is 28" but looks taller because he's got long legs.

Jake and Bubba share the same birthday. Well not birthday, but date. Bubba will be 9 months on Sunday the 24th.
Did the doctor say for Jake to lose weight because of the hip operation or just because?
Bubba weighed in at 103 last week, and the vet hasn't said anything to me, so I assume things are OK. He's around 26-27" at the shoulder, still has a waistline, and you can feel his ribs, but not see them. He actually looks lean. Does this sound OK?

Bubbas mom
The vet wants Jake to lose weight due to the hip dysplasia, he said Jake was lean for a newf but he wants him skinny.

Well, if it'll best for his health . . .than it's what has to be done. I have a hard enough time keeping Bubba lean let alone skinny, Good Luck!

Brady just turned 9 months as well (17). He weighs 108 and he is lean and tall. I however started weight watchers last week and haven't stopped eating yet
By the way Bubba's Mom, I love the name.
Diane, good work for you and Jake!

We just had Rory weighed at the vet and she has lost some too. However she is now officially a minature Newfoundland - 88lbs at 22 months! The smallest on the board, I think.

Now, it sounds like we are starving her...I can assure you we are not! She now has a waist though. And the day after we weighed her she fell in the creek when we went for a walk and this TEENY TINY THIN dog emerged! It was nice to see though, she has always carried a bit of chub. I don't want her to lose any more weight though, I think she is right now.

Wow! 88 lbs!? That's gotta be a record. MiniNewf! As long as Rory is healthy and happy, that's all that matters. :D
I disagree with people who overfeed their pups thinking they'll have a bigger dog. All they end up with is a dog with problems.
I have a friend who's mom owns a newf the same age as Bubba, and she's 130 lbs. I saw her last week and I think she's a fair bit overweight, I felt her, and no ribs. But they figure she's better because she's bigger than Bubba. We'll see in a couple years.

"By the way Bubba's Mom, I love the name."

Thanks Pat! We think it suits him well.
