Anyone having trouble with their dog facing away from the water and not turning back to take a peek? If they peek, is that a fail??

There is nothing written about dogs "peeking" and turning their heads. It just states that they have to be facing away from the water. At our last X test out here, a dog did a lot of peeking:) the handler did make attempts to get her attention away from looking at the water.

Megan, this is one of those issues that can be interpreted differently depending on the judge so it's best to train so it's not an issue. First rule of water training or draft training is never make the judge think!!!:roflmao:

Yes, you're right. I've seen things they've let fly that I've been very surprised about. I know it totally depends on the judges. I've also seen entrants challenge decisions based on written rules. I think I've stewarded too many tests;-)

Yeah, I've seen those arguments too and they don't usually end up with good results for anybody.

I wish more people would realize that participating in these events and earning the titles is just a small part of the picture. The big picture is the time spent with your dog and the bond that develops because of what you've gone through together. THAT is what it's all about. Dogs don't understand titles but they do understand quality time with their people.

Yes, my thinking too. I see nothing in rules either about that specifically so it looks to be open to interpretation. Never make the judge think!!! :run:
