That does look pretty cool, Laura, especially living on LI and being by the water, this would be a great area to develop water rescue.

Thanks for posting this link. This type of rescue is very valuable in our area also. I think this is a great idea!

We haven't actually tried any excersizes per se, but we have been "playing around" with Bryce in the water just getting him used to different situations. He was scared of going into the water at dark, and so we've practiced with that, he also prefers rough conditions now (the more wind, rain and waves, the happier). He's not old enough to actually pull too much, but we kind of play with that too, Rob will hang on to his harness and paddle beside him while he play pulls. We will be going out on an inflatable and when he's okay with it, then we'll be tipping it (brrr, brrr.). Just little things in the water we're hoping will lead him up to big things someday. He's also seen strangers in the water in suits, but so far he won't swim out to them, he sticks close to us.

It would be great to hear from others who have actually gone through these practices in real.

My Diva is ready, willing and able to go for the new "water wizzard" exercises this year. I don't believe that the final version of exercises is 100% set but it is great that those who have water maniacs have another level of exercises to keep their Newfs happy. Now if it would only get above 60 degrees here in Ohio, Diva and I would be ready to hit the beach!

Amen. I know it said that they wanted them done for the 2003 testing season and the comments were due in October. I hope there are people who try for our test this year Susan. I really want to see them. I also would love to come and watch a training session. I'd be happy to volunteer as a victim...
:D ;)

Wow, tough exercises.

When we get our newf pup, we'll start out with the basic water rescue test.

Hopefully by the time she has her Can.WRDX she'll be ready for these advanced tests. Also, I hope ny then that the Newfoundland Dog Club of Canada had adopted these 3rd level of exercises.

Cheers

You'll just have to come test here in the states. Susan, I am goin to hold you to that. I really want to see how it's done. :D

I bought boat shoes and a lifevest to I could play next year. I must really want to do this, cause I hate lifevests. I am a certified lifeguard, and have my WSI (water safety instructor), though I haven't renewed it in about 10 years. the lifevest is MORE likely to cause problems. :D Oh well. I am thinking spring. Just like the newfies are.

NO fair!! You two live close and I am stuck way out here in Darke County. About 2 hours away!!

So everyone can make plan to come to my pond warming party and we can play "teach newfs rescue". We'll get a boat all set up by then, already have a rubber boat. Those who already have WD titles can help us who don't. We can fire up the grill for hot dogs and burgers.

Think Spring!!!!

Jeannie, I am just as close to you as to Susan, I think. Probably closer to you, I think you siad you're not to far off 70. I'd be just as happy to be a victim to your fuzzies. :D

I just want to play with some newfies until that day when I can have my own.

Water play
It's all play right now, but maybe someday we'll figure the real stuff out!
Is there seminars and such that a person can go to?
