Worrying unecsessarily

Last week, I stocked up on food. At the time, I brought one bag into the house, and left the other in the van. However, when it came time to go to obedience class, I had to remove it from Cora & Kira's eager mouths!!!

Anyhoo... I put the bag on the porch, and promptly forgot it! It survived there for a couple of days before the racoons discovered it. They tore into it on Saturday night, leaving food on the floor, and a big hole in the bag.

Cora discovered it Sunday morning. She was outside forever... and we now know she was basically in hog heaven, gorging herself on the food as if she were at an "ALL YOU CAN EAT BUFFET".

I was a little worried about it... and became increasingly more so when she became very quiet Sunday evening. Early Monday morning, I took her outside, and she had a bad case of "the runs". I gave her an immodium (which my Vet has suggested) and merrily went off to work. Well, not merrily, because it was MONDAY afterall.

Upon returning home, we discovered that the poor girl had vomited hours before. She managed to stay out of it, how, I'll never know. She was really sluggish all night long, and had more diahreah later that evening. I was worried that she had gotten sick from the racoons.

I stayed home on Tuesdsay morning and took her to the vet. The Vet felt that she had just overeaten, and that her tummy was just really upset. She got a shot, and some pills, and is on a bland (egg & rice) diet.

What I'm most upset about is that I paniced. I was sure that it was something..... much more horrible. Do any of you do that? Russell just laughed at me.

I guess after losing Sadie so suddenly in March, I'm just gun-shy.

Every time Cozy or Daisy cry in their sleep I'm convinced they have Bloat.

Every time they limp I'm convinced it's a torn ligament.

Every time I go to bed I nudge the baby to make sure she's breething.

Daisy ate a corncob and I called the vet like 38 times.

What - me worry?

You are not alone.

Believe me, GAD is right. You're NOT alone!
I've had multiple Newfs for more than 30 years and I'll STILL sit up all night watching one who's doing something funny. And I was on the phone to our vet immediately after removing the possum Emma was carrying around to check about the possibility of rabies. I think we ALL panic when something seems wrong. Some, I've seen before, so I'll wait a day or so to check for improvement. But I don't think it's over-reacting to be sure that your pet isn't in serious trouble. I think the vets would rather have you check with them than let something go until it turns into a serious problem.
