Hi Everyone,
I am interested in drafting Macy in the snow. Does anyone have a special sled design they use for snow? I would like her to be able to pull the kids around as well.
Please let me know if anyone has a design or knows of a place I can look to get one.
Thanks so much!
Dona

This is an article by Peter Maniate on Winter draft work. He had a follow-up article in the last Newf News(Nov-Dec) but it doesn't seem to be up on his web site yet.

The Nov-Dec column entitled "Winterizing the Draft Dog" has just been put on my website http://www.hannibalkennels.on.ca/articles/carting_corner/2008_11.htm

The last four paragraphs would be of interest to anyone who has a Newf in winter conditions.

My husband and I used to have a Samoyed, and he just pulled a regular tobagan around for us. He loved it and could easily pull a couple of little kids. I think having a good fitting halter is most imporant.

Dona, we picked up a dog sled at one of our club's auctions a couple of years ago. It used to be Mike and Sandi Lovett's. They helped me rigg up gang lines for the sled so we could try it out. Here are some pictures I took in 2006.

It's a little different than working with a cart but it's great exercise in the winter time. If you are interested, I could look up some of the web sites that I found to have very useful information.
