Water

For those who participate in water events with your Newf, how long does it generally take to dry the dog?

For those who have ponds or live on a lake, do your Newfs ever get completely dry?

We have a cottage on a lake and spend a few days every week there. More in the summer...a couple weeks at a time. The dogs are in the lake a ton. I finally invested in a dog dryer (K-9 III) because it took too long for my Newf to dry on his own. For instance, once I got him out of the lake after his last swim, I would rinse him and and it would take approximately a day and a half for him to dry on his own...and his coat was still a little damp in the undercoat area. Not to mention, he would quite often get a sour smell in the thick fur areas like the neck/chin area. This can lead to skin infections, mats, etc. which cause chaos in a Newf's coat. I took the plunge and invested in a dryer and now when he is done swimming I rinse and dry him. If we are going to be at the lake for a long period of time where he will be swimming daily, I don't necessarily dry him every time. I always rinse thoroughly but the drying is when he will be out of the lake for a few days. :) Hope this helps.

So these are quiet enough that they don't hurt the dogs ears?
I've got a double K 2 speed, it's louder than a vaccum, but not as loud as some dryers, I also use it outside.
I don't go near the ears (she hates that) and you wouldn't aim it in the ear either obviously.
Only took a couple times of using it before she loved it. Gracie's favorite is when I aim the air back and forth on her belly, she stretches out her front and back legs, and she smiles :) She gets excited when I take the dryer out of the closet, and hides in the laundry room when I bring out the vaccum :D

My k9III does not bother my ears at all and the Newfs don't seem to mind it. When I first got it I was shocked by how much quieter it is than my old dryer which only had half the power.
