Upset tummy?

My 3 year old is vomiting. She started this a few nights ago, no sounds just up with the food. This was Tuesday night. She seemed fine, and only did it once. Yesterday, Wednesday, she vomited again. This time mostly bile, and some tomatoes. This morning she seemed fine. Now today, while I was at work, my husband said she vomited again after drinking water, then when I came home she drank water and regurgitated it back up. A short time after that, I fed her and she vomited again. She is in heat if that makes any difference. Any suggestion what I should be doing or watching for? I never had this problem with any of my newfs before, but years ago I had this problem with a collie, and it was what the breeder called water belly. I guess to much salt in her food which made her drink her water to quickly. I changed the food and the problem went away. Any input is appreciated!

From past experience, I would be worried she may have eaten something that she shouldn't have and be concerned about an obstruction/partial obstruction. Does she still have an appetite? Is she still pooping normally? Since she's been vomiting so much, I would bring her to the vet. These guys can dehydrate very quickly. They can also run some tests to find the source and draw some labs to make sure she's doing OK.

Poop is normal, eating is normal, but I took away the food after the last vomit. and as we speak she is wrestling with her 6 year old sister. She is acting completely normal. I will call my vet in the morning, guess i was hoping for something to sooth her stomach.

Since she's vomited so many times, I'd bring her to get checked out. Even if it's purely to make sure she's not dehydrated. My big guy had an obstruction for quite a long time before he stopped eating and became lethargic. The intermittent vomiting went on for a while before all the major signs showed up. It could be nothing serious, but it's best to be sure.

The only thing that will settle her stomach is taking away food, or a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice etc. If you bring her to the vet tomorrow, they'd probably appreciate her on an empty stomach just in case they need to run tests.

Sounds good, I will keep you posted on what he says. Thanks for the input!
Let us know what you find out! I give a Pepcid (the bigger, white, triangular pill) to soothe a tummy but it sounds like she's maybe got something else going on where nothing seems to stay down.

Sending good thoughts!

Her discharge looks normal, not pussy or gooey. Called the vet but they must be busy I got the answering machine. So far this morning all is well. She went out and has not been a glutton for water, and has not vomited. Her and sister are playing kissy face

Okay back from the vet. He said she seems fine, no blockages, no fever. He said it can be just a bug in the belly, so he gave me a light anti biotic for that, Kaopectate for dogs, and she is on a chicken and rice diet for a week. No diarrhea, or vomiting so far today, but I do have peace of mind now. Thanks for the shoulder to cry on.

I am glad she's OK. It's always better to make a trip to the vet than worry about what it could be:)

Ok she vomited on me yesterday. Looked like all of the veggies that were in her chicken and rice. I have never fed a dog this before, yes never after 20 years of newfoundlands. So here is my next question...... I cut out the veggies since they seem hard to digest, and I fed her this morning. Since I cut 2 cups of veggies should I feed her twice a day. She is 3 and about 115 pounds.

Seems I recall mention of tomatoes in an earlier post? If you are feeding her these they could be a problem...there is something in them that is a neurotoxin to dogs if they eat tom much of it.
Carrots and sweet potatoes also give my newfs problems. If they aren't completely pureed they usually yark them back up.

I know a lot of folks only feed once daily, but I have always fed twice a day. i think it is better for their blood glucose, metabolism and digestion than feeding one larger meal a day. Just my opinion though.

I have always fed full bowl. Never had a problem until just now. As for the tomatoes my husband would give them a cherry one once in awhile then she figured out how to go pick them herself. My other girl doesn't seem to bother picking her own. As for the rest of the veggies, after she tossed them back up my son looked on line and read that they should be pureed, so I just figured I would give them up for a couple of days then just bring them back in and puree them.
I just fed her a second time, keep your fingers crossed I hope she keeps it all down. She is acting just fine.
