If you want to thin the chest area in hot weather do you point the thinning scissors up or down and is it best to have the dog sitting and trim from the front or standing and trim from the side?

The Mars Coat King would be a better tool to thin out the chest.
If you want to use thinning shears to thin out the chest then you need to lie the shears deep inside the coat near the skin pointing the tips UPWARD. In other words go from the legs toward the chin. When you make your snip make sure you cannot see the tips of you shears or you will see a scissor mark
