"The Wild Child"

As many of you know, I'm hopelessly addicted to the cheap paperback romances (Harlequin, Silhouette, etc).

Well, last night, while at Kroger's to stock up on hosiery (which I got for $0.49 a pair thanks to coupons and my Kroger Plus Card :D ), I stopped in the book aisle, and much to my delighted amazement, one of the current Harlequin Superromance novels had a newf on the cover.

Of course, I bought it... haven't started it yet, but will fill you in later.

Annie - Looking forward to the summary of the book! **Will Monty be tutored? Will he then fall hopelessly in love with that pretty little cockapoo at the chateau down the lane, but be destined to live a lonely, bitter, puppy-less life? Will Annie decide that she secretly prefers chihuhuas to newfs?**

PJ: I think it's a good thing you live in MN. Sounds like you and I could get in trouble together!

Well, so far, it's un-impressive. It takes place on an island. Our "heroine" has gone to close up her elderly Aunt's cottage, and senses someone watching her. She believes that she is the only human on the island, because the only other house, at the far end of the island has stood deserted for years.

It turns out that she is being watched by a 5 year old girl and her Newf. The girl lives with her reclusive father in the deserted house. The newf is very protective of the child, and growls at our heroine....

I've got some sort of stomache bug, and have been lying low. Will fill you in when I've read some more!

I liked the part where they were swimming and the child was screaming and laughing, the poor newf wasn't sure what to do, swimming back and forth and such. She explained about the instinc (can't spell this early) of the newfie

I think she's portrayed him well so far. Protective, but not aggressive.

I just finished the book in the wee hours of this morning, and you are right. The author did a great job of portraying the Newf (named Bruno in the book). The scene Elizabeth described was perfect! The storyline in general improved... it's still not my favorite, but it was fun reading about a newf for a change!!!!

Yes, that irony did not escape me!!!!
Specially as I watched Kira do the Indy 500 around our dining room table yesterday. Poor Monty wanted to join in, but until he has his stitches out, we're having to be really strict. Poor guy!
