The Pool Is Open!

We filled the pool last week-end. Then there's the task of getting the winter cover off, cleaning out the pool and adding the opening chemicials. Truman has been sitting by the gate, staring wistfully at the pool.

Today I checked the water chemistry and everything was balanced so I let the kid in. He went tearing down to the pool steps and put on the brakes. He was trying to figure out how to get in. It's so different going into a pool vs. entering water from a shoreline. The front-end goes down on the first step and then there's the balancing act of getting those back feet into the water and kicking off into that water all at the same time.

Truman tried a couple of different things, slapped at the water with his front paws and even whined a little. Finally.....well I took pictures and put together a little slideshow so you could see.

Great video Sue!! They are going to have a great summer. You are very lucky that they get along so well..with them both intact.
Just curious, is your pool gunite or does it have a vinyl liner??

Wow, that was a great video! I am so jealous of people who can put stuff like that together, it's a really nice way to show your pics.

Pam, our pool is vinyl. Up to this point, we haven't had any issues with tears and our newfies have been swimming in this pool for eight years.

We have fiberclass steps for entry into the pool and I've taught all the dogs to use that. So far nobody has clawed at the sides. When Truman is in the pool, I stay by the steps and watch him carefully. Whenever it looks like he is thinking about trying to climb out from the side, I call him to me. I want to instill the steps as the shoreline.
