The Newf Lean

Huh. I never would have ascribed such nefarious reasons to the lean. It always seemed like snuggles to me too. Nice to know others agree.

A groomer told me my Angus was a dominant dog because he leaned on her too.....we found another groomer...one who appreciated the Newfie lean. ;0) (the new groomer owned Great Pyrs and she said they leaned on her too).

I could not get video to run, but it is (if you've ever felt it), love and affection. At the vet's today Moonlight either leaned on me or did her version of being in my lap (crosswise over my knees) and there was absolutely no dominance there. Anyone who says that is nuts.

The doggie lean an act of dominance, I suppose it would depend on the dog and situation. Most of my familys' dogs have been leaners. Never saw it as an act of dominance, more of wanting attention or affection. Monty is a first class foot sitter with a backwards slide. :)
