The dangers of corn cobs

It has been a year since I lost my last puppy on Memorial Day due to a corn cob incident. It has also been a year since I posted his pics or shared his story. Pax was a 7 month old Boerboel who was sweet and adorable, however, his downfall was that he literally tried to ingest everything in sight. This became a real problem last Memorial Day when he ate a corn cob at a picnic and we did not find out until it was too late. Loosing a puppy is never easy and this incident taught me the importance of keeping pups safe when there is a lot of food and people around. I hope all of my Newf.net friends and their furry loved ones have a safe and happy holiday.

I am so sorry that this happened to you...who would have thought a corn cob would have been fatal...did he swallow it whole? He was a beautiful guy...

I think in the past on NN there was also a Newfie that passed away fom a corn cob, so sad....but I know how quick dogs are. I nearly lost my Urshei at 14 weeks, becuase she found a cooked bone and swallowed it and she was blocked. She had major surgery at 14 weeks. And i was with her all the time and did not see it happen. Just picked up she was not well and she went into surgery immediatly after an Xray.... they scare us and keep us on our toes and yes accidents do happen. I am so sad for you for loosing your pup :(

Wish more people could read this. It is such a serious danger. Moonlight as a pup ate a part of a corn cob and was able to pass it, but the struggle was enough for me, and NEVER AGAIN.
