The Board

This board is awefully quiet. I really think it could be so very useful (and has been) if we could just get some more members.

Anyone have any ideas as to how to do this?

I know we've talked about this before and I came up with a banner people could put out (which was a great idea).

Anyone else got any good ideas?

It has been very quiet of late!

I think part of the problem is it's quite hard to find. I found out about it from a post on Newf-L but prior to that had done many, many searches relating to Newfies under various search engines, and it never came up.

I now have it bookmarked on Netscape, but yesterday Netscape didn't work for me so I was using Internet Explorer. I couldn't remember this web address so I tried a few that I thought it might have been and nothing came up. I then typed in various forms of it (Newf-Net, Newf_net, etc.) in the Yahoo search engine and still I couldn't find it. So I had to wait until today to try again through Netscape. (I did find your webpage featuring Cozy and the others though GAD - very cool site, I didn't get to have a good look around last night but will go back).

I think maybe putting an occasional post on Newf-L would be good just reminding listers that it's here. (I'm only a lurker over there - I feel much more comfortable posting here).

I love the format of this site and think it has the potential to be great. I too would love it to get busy!

GAD, I'm sorry about not touting your (our!) board more. I will put the banner up on my site today and also will begin to send out invitations to the lists and clubs online I belong.

I have been back to work. Teaching leaves very little time. This is the first weekend since January that I have had a chance to visit. You should see the list of newf-ls that are waiting for me. The board was my first stop!
I hope to revise my website toward the end of the month I'll try to put up a banner and link as well.

Please - no apologies! I wasn't looking to place blame, but rather to see what I could do to get the word out!

The fact that it's hard to find escaped me (Imagine - I'm an Internet Consultant!). Guess I've just been too busy. Awesome point though, and I've submitted the site to some search engines. Hopefully that will help.

As for posting "advertisments" to Newf-L, the practice is frowned upon, which I agree with.

What I CAN do however is add a link from my pwn Newf-FAQ, which gets a HUGE amount of hits all the time.

Thanks for the ideas.

Hey GAD!!!

What about making a poster and posting it on the Message Board at National!!! Talk about a captive audience!!!

Also, I will get a list of Newsletter Editors from the various Regional Newf Clubs... maybe they can put something in their Newsletters (Like I did.... whether there are any new members.... I don't know!)

Just an idea!

Also.... registering the Website with various Web Browsers... lycos, Hot Bot, Dog Pile, etc. might help!!!!

And... what about an ad in Newf Tide, the official publication of NCA...

OH! heres another.... there is a Newf Web Ring hosted by Yahoo.... If you can't find it... let me know... my website is on it...

Bye for now!

Excellenet ideas.

I will not be going to the Nationals I'm afraid.

As for making a poster for the National that's a good idea, but someone would have to post it.

The site has been submitted to various search engines. We should see some results but it takes time for search engines to update their pages.

Ads are a little over the top I think, this being a non-profit, non-income, labor of love sort of site.

I have added links to my Newf-FAQ page which gets a lot of hits every month, and I think I will add a small note to the Newf-FAQ automated reminder to Newf-L.

As for web-rings I'm afraid from a totally personal standpoint I can't stand them. While I think the general premise is good, in practice they (IMO) clutter a site and more often then not are filled with dead links. I guess it's just the purist in me being close-minded again.

Thanks for the ideas!

I was thinking that this would be a great forum to house all those discussions that get posted to Newf-L on a regular basis. You know, the ones about automobiles, crates, doggie doors, SUVs, vacuum cleaners, etc. If there was some way to get the Newf-L population to post their messages here, then the threads would not get lost, and those of us on Newf-L for many years would not have the same topics rehashed as new newf owners join the list.

Personally, I have seen the vacuum cleaner and automobile threads appear about 3 times since I joined the list.

Just a thought....

When any online community gets large, topics will get repeated. Thre amany boards like this one (other topics) that have thousands of members, and guess what - the old timers complain about people asking the same questions over and over. This type of board does however have the benefit of a search engine.

Of course the real benefit is the fact that you don't get those repetetive conversations dumped to your inbox!

I'll be happy to take a poster! Maybe they'll let us display it in the hospitality area... do you think we ought to get confirmed permission ahead of time?

Speaking of the automated FAQ reminder, I haven't seen it in a while. Could you check to be sure it's still running, GAD? That is, when the new Daddy has a spare moment!
