The Beach!

I just have to tell everyone how proud I am of my newfie girl Madison. Just this summer at a NCNC water workshop, she swam for the first time. It was a great accomplishment, but she really didn't seem to be enjoying it at all. In any event, I was just happy that she learned she had the ability to swim, and chose to leave her alone and see if she ever would swim by herself.

Since then, we've had several experiences where the water was deep enough for her to swim. Sometimes she took a few strokes, and sometimes she just waded on the shore. Nothing major though. I bit my tongue every time because she is a VERY stubborn newfie, and if Mom wants her to swim, she might very well decide NOT to swim.

But last night at the beach we had a real breakthrough. I went into the water with all the dogs and they followed me out to the sandbar. My Rottie and my little waterbug puppy went happily swimming around past the sandbar. Madison just waded around on the SB for a while, but then started swimming out to the ball I was throwing for the other dogs. Then she went farther and farther out each time. The best part, was that she was really having a FUN time. I think she is going to be a real swimmer now. But hopefully, not as anxious to swim as Dogger's Boagie ;)

Anyway -- how about that!! I actually have a newf that swims!
