Thank You, Kona

Abbie's puppies turn seven today- some in our homes, some in our hearts.

Yesterday Kona's family drove four hours to share the holiday with us, and introduce Bear, the two-year-old rescue Newf who has just joined their pack. It's the first time we've all been together since Kona left for the Bridge. Bittersweet? Of course, but it was one of the best moments of my six decades when a young lady who has become very dear to Susan and me looked around the table and announced, "This is a real family Thanksgiving."

She's right.

That's so wonderful Bob. Sounds like you all had a wonderful day. Very bittersweet but it sounds like you all had a nice day.

How is dear sweet Mary doing? I so love her spunk and independent spirit and so look forward to stories of her.

Aw.....I'm looking for that "like" button. So glad you had a good Thanksgiving. Our dogs' spirits never leave us. Sounds like Kona was right there with you.

She continues to amaze us! Just a few months ago, at the age of almost-seven, she caught on to the concept of "come when called."

Now, if she is lying in her favorite spot against the fence at the far end of the yard, and I step out the door and call, "Mary pup-pup-pup" in a very silly calling–a–puppy voice, she will rise, take three or four steps, stop and empty her bladder (mighty considerate of her!), then walk to me like a chess knight – straight south along the garage wall to the pathway, then west across the yard to the porch steps.

The same routine every time- our girl is big on consistency- but I'm wondering when she will catch on to the idea that she could move like a bishop and save a few steps!
