Washington State University has developed a way to test for ivermectin sensitivity in dogs. Ivermectin Sensitivity
Common breeds affected = old english sheepdogs, collies, whippets, australian shepherds and sheltland sheepdogs.
Note: Ivermectin is the active compound in many heartworm medications, but the dose in the heartworm meds is low enough that it is not a problem in sensitive dogs.
Just thought it was interesting.
Maybe there will be an effort to breed this out of affected breeds ???
