Terribly Aggressive Playing

Hello all! Can you tell I'm new and I've been excited to get approved? This is my third post already! So I mentioned in the Welcome Wagon that my 21wk old Newfie is my first puppy, and I'm having a few issues with training.

My main issue is when he gets wound up, he bites. Hard. I think it's just play biting but he's getting his adult teeth now and it hurts! I am a small 110lbs and he does a lot of damage to me. I consistently do the loud yelp then leave the room, but he does it again right after I come back. Sometimes when I turn around, he will run from across the room and literally lunge at my back. It's starting to scare me as I feel I can't truly control this.

Does this exceed the normal 'land shark' phase? Any help would be moch appreciated!

Hello and welcome :) with our two when they were puppies and would bite we would correct them with a stern no biting and give them a toy and high praises for taking it instead. I don't know if it's because we had two so they were correcting each other as well as us correcting them but the land shark stage wasn't very long lived in our house. Good luck I hope you're able to find something that works to help you through this.

I am sorry that you are going through this as I have been having the same thing with my puppy. She is now 15 weeks old and is getting better at biting but I needed stitches from her running and jumping and it ripped my skin open. Not fun. It is scarey and you begin to wonder if we have satan's spawn on our hands. I hope your pup will get a grip on himself soon...

When teeth touch skin in my house... all play stops NOW. I don't leave the room but will remove pup to a specific spot (all mine at any age have a "place" for down/stay as correction) for a "time out". Unless he's crated I would keep a leash on him for control also and keep him near you as you go about you daily business around the house.
Is this happening when he's getting tired or at any time? Just like kids, they get cranky and listen less when they need a nap too.
I use "no mouth" whenever teeth touch skin and if all else fails to get the point across I will grab jowl and pinch it on a tooth until it hurts a little, saying no mouth and then place them in their spot. Work on obedience commands, sit, down, stay, leave it and come in short session to drain energy throughout the day also. Rough play, teeth or any behavior I don't want (pretty much anything that's not cute when they're 150 pounds) is dealt with immediately! I remove them to the spot (crate, bed, safe room) until they are quiet or if they stay quiet about 5 minutes and try again.
