Teeth

My newfie Ben will be 2 in December. The last couple of day's he has been holding his stuffy in his mouth and whimpering. He started doing this off and on the last couple of day's. I thought he just wanted to play fetch with it.. :(
I don't know what I was thinking...

Well, tonight he has really been whimpering and he is holding his big rubber ball in his mouth and drooling like crazy. I have checked his mouth over and over and I can't see anything that would be causing him pain in there. Do they still cut teeth at this age?

Any help would be very much appreciated. He is really starting to worry me.

He is eating his meals and drinking water without any problems at all.

Thank you.

I'd post this down in Maladies and Diseases. Can't help you out other than to tell you Beau will also be 2 in Dec. and we haven't had any problems with his teeth or mouth.

Could he have a toothache? I think I'd take him to the Vet, it does sound like he's in pain for SOME reason. Poor baby.

I moved the original thread here and deleted the duplicate thread before any posts were made.

I'd suggest a trip to the vet

Wet a small dish towel or a washcloth and put it in the freezer. When it reaches the soft frozen stage give him this and see if he will chew/hold it. He could possibly have an infection down in/under the tooth and is trying to relieve the pressure by biting down. Don't know if the cloth will help but it's worth a try temporarily.

Well we just got back from his vet appt. Doc seems to think he is just fine!! WOOHOO!! He checked all inside his mouth and couldn't see anything. He said his teeth look great, no tartar,plaque,discoloration,redness...nothing!!!

He took his temp...normal. Checked his belly, legs, hips, back...not one peep out of Ben...He checked his ears...one ear he said is just a tiny bit red...nothing that should be causing him pain...He did give us drops to use incase we noticed him scratching or digging at it or shaking his head side to side.

He said the drooling may have been from the ball being in his mouth....

I didn't think about this before...but we had to make a quick trip to SC last week, we bought 4 acres of land down there...lots of running space for them now.. we were gone for a couple of day's and they had to stay home with my sons...So his vet thinks it may be stemming from that....So for right now..we are just watching to see if anything else develops. He did say we could try anti-inflammatories for a few day's to see if that helps, but we declined that for now. He also said we could try asprin if we see him doing that again to see if that helps.

So he said for now...we may just have a big baby on our hands..LOL..Which is just fine by us!!!

But I just want to thank you guys for the concern. It feels great having a place to come to for answers about something or just reassurance.

Thanks again,
Chris
