Tart Cherry?

Anyone use it??

I am house/dog/bird sitting this week for my basset hound owner/breeder friends. while they are in 50 some degree Lake Louise Canada while I am sweltering here in central IL caring for the 3 "Pesky Little Varmints" and the "Pesky Little Buzzard" as I call them ... :eek:fftopic: :)

Anyway the 8 year old female Basset was having some back issues last week, and was scheduled for a appointment with a traveling chiropractor vet who does acupuncture that comes to town once a month and uses a local vet's office. Very nice lady and from what I gather very well respected in central IL especially with people with horses. I was talking about Snuffles' elbow issues in general. She said Tart Cherry would help with tendinitis and liniments if memory serves me. , but said it would be almost impossible to get a dog to take it in liquid form What she didn't know if it was available in capsules. She even gave us her cell number to call if we found some. So Mom went to the local store to get that type stuff, and they had it.

So even though Snuffles seems to be only suffering from the heat/humidity right now, I guess we start him on Tart Cherry too.

Hmmm....Interesting..Apparently it is becoming a popular treatment for tendonitis, gout, arthritis, and firbromyalgia. Will look into this further for possible addition to Sophie's ever growing regimen of pharmaceuticals.

I have seen, and purchased, treats with tart cherry. I forget the brand name, but they have cruchy bone treats and small rectangle chewies. The chewies are more concentrated and are supposed to be limited to 2 per day. Moe loves them (well, no surprise there, he loves all treats), although I don't buy them regularly.

We live 10 miles from Traverse City...tart cherry capital. Most ( I think 90%) of tart cherries come from here. I can tell you for inflammation it works. My husband has severe spinal stenosis and 2 herniated disks. He has to take vicoden sometimes, but can't take ibuprofen due the fact he is on Plavix. The tart cherry juice takes the place of ibuprofen and is safe. There are two types of tart cheeries that do this. Montmorency and Balaton... Montmorency OMG tastes awful. It is so bitter. If you can, get the Balaton cherry concentrate. Everything here is made with tart cherries. The burgers, sausage, salads, wine, salad dressing...tart cherries in everything.
If you are looking for the liquid for you, This is a good place to get it. I think they also sell capsules.

But be careful, at least in humans it can cause diarrhea if you have too much.
