Supplements for ACL injury -- question

I had a conversation with a great breeder that recommended the following supplements for Murphy. Solomon's Seal and Myristin. Anybody heard of it and know of where I can order it? I found a website that sells the myrsitin for either people, canines or horses. I can't find anyone that sells solomon's seal. I'm just curious if anyone has used it and what their results were. More specifically has anyone ever used it for ACL injuries? Murphy comes home in two weeks so I want to start him on it as soon as he returns. Thanks.

He is already getting the adequan injections. These are down to once month now. They want to keep him another two weeks because he is still not walking, so I'm interested in anything alternatively that can help me. We are grasping for straws at this point. My husband just informed me that if he is not walking or at least interested in using his wheel chair he cannot come home. Of course I have something entirely different to say on that subject, but I know he likes to express his opinion once in a while -- and feel like he has some power!

Looked up Solomon's Seal plant. On two separate sites, it was listed as toxic to dogs if eaten in quantity. You have to be careful with alternative medicines - they're not regulated and can be dangerous. People tend to think that they're safer because they are natural...not always the case.

Very true, for people and dogs. People always think natural is safe, and as Ginny said, thats definitely not true. Just look at some mushrooms, morning glory seeds, certain fish etc. All are natural, and all can be deadly.

I use to have this as a plant and was told it was poisonous and got rid of it. If you want a herb that is not noxious there is "devils claw". It is the root of a plant (can't remember the name) and my old horses and one of my newfs are on it. I use it in Winter and it is anti inflammatory and safe. They eat it in their feed and you don't have to hide it.

Well, I'm glad I asked. I will try the other one instead and stay away from the Solomon Seal. Thanks.

Some of the supplements Hudson is on post ACL issues (well, some were before too):

Salmon Oil
Dasuquin
Vit. E
Vit. C
Knox gelatin
MSM (Equine variety)

Not suggesting any of them for you, just giving you an idea of what we are giving Hudson. A few of them (Dasuquin and Salmon oil, mostly) I feel are absolutely crucial, as if we run out of them within days we notice negative changes with Hudson.
