Suggestions for Pain Relievers

Hi Everyone,
I would like to ask for suggestions about pain relief for Owen after surgery. I know the vet will suggest Rimydal, Deramaxx, and such. I would PREFER not to go that route if I can skirt it. Last year, I gave him only 1 day of Rimydal, and then switched to Ascripton after calling the vet back and inquiring.
Does anyone have any ideas to share as I am trying to be prepared for Monday night and the remaining recoup time.
I know Pat has posted about DGP, I have heard about it but have not YET bought any. Please advise, any suggestions will be truly appreciated.

Thanks for the input. Could I ask in what dosage do you use these? Owen is very thin right now and probably is about 128. Thanks in advance.

When Wilbur was neutered several months ago the vet gave him tramadol. It was only for short term use and it isn't an nsaid. Good luck by the way with Owen, I am thinking of him (and you too).

Cissy, she gets one Arnica Montana 6c tablet each morning, and then one 500mg Bromelain each afternoon. She weighed 83 lbs when we last had her at the vet last month. I may increast the Arnica to two tablets and see how it goes, she's still limping some. Good luck to you!
