still settling in

Hi everyone, If you have a rescue or love to hear happy stories I have one for you. Sara our 9 1/2 old Newfie is a rescue. January will be 3 years that we have had her. I still wonder what all she had to endure in her "other" life. It has taken her so long to show trust and love to us. Within the last month she has started giving us real kisses. She would kiss and quickly turn away, but now she slobbers all over us. The other night she went into the bedroon where my husband was watching TV. Sara went over to him and while sitting on the floor by the bed she laid her head on his pillow and just sit there. Of course all the petting and loving probably made her stay longer, but it was a real joy to see her open up and offer affection. She is also starting to "beg" for treats and be somewhat bossy. Before she would just run to the basement and hide. How could anyone mistreat an animal. If you have been thinking about a rescue, by all means get one. They take much time and patience but the rewards in the end give you remarkable feelings of joy and accomplishment

Jeannie, Bless you for rescuing Sara. We have rescued 3 dogs, two GSD bitches, and most recently a Newf dog. The Shepherds took a while to warm up, but I know what you mean when you talk about how you feel when they finally DO start to give ya' kisses. We are still waiting for Isaac Newfton to warm up, but we've only had him for a few weeks, so it's early days yet. Rescue dogs are THE BEST!!! j.

Jeannie, stories like Sarah's are the reason Rescue people keep going. There's a special place in Heaven for people who take in Rescues, especially the hard-to-place older ones. And it's wonderful to hear how well they do. All of you, please give your Rescues a big hug for me.
