Sara's chest x-ray results

We had Sara's chest x-ray because of her coughing. The results are not good. The right ventricle (spelling) of her heart is enlarged. The vet said that is the part of the heart that pumps to the lungs and the broncile (sp) in her lungs are full of fluid. That is what is causing the coughing. He put Sara on Lasix. He said he is treating her now as if she were a 50 pound dog, so we can work up to get the lowest dosage that will work. He is doing it this way so that later, if it gets worse, we will have more "power" to attack it. He said that within 7-10 days the coughing should be less, if not we will increase her dosage. He said to keep her on her regular exercise program and to watch her sodium intake. He said her heart sounds good and that the reason he cannot hear the enlargment is probably because she is so fit. He also said this is common in older large breed dogs--Sara is 10. He also said he feel we caught it in the early stages and that she can live for years with treatment.

Has anyone had experience with this? Does anyone know where I can get more info online? Does anyone know of any different treatments for this?

Thanks
