Rusty Water

We live in a rural area and have alot of iron in our well water. The dogs ge the filtered softened water for drinking but I am wondering about swimming? We bought a 1000 gallon watering troft for the dogs to swim and hooked up an inline filter to our well water, we filled the troft about 1/4 full and it looked nasty 24 hours later (Really rusty..but that did eventually settle to the bottom). I have not found anything yet that says iron is a bad thing but I would think that the high concentration cannot be good. Any suggestions or opinions? (The troft has been empty and upside down for the last couple of months but my Koda Bear lays on top of it anytime in rains...just hoping for a good swim.

I don't think iron would do any harm. When we lived on a Station (Ranch) we had bore water with a lot of iron in it. We used to have baths in it and all our stock/dogs drank it. And we had no problems. We found our horses would not drink town water when we went to show, so we had to carry water when we traveled...........Give the poor lad a swim

About all well water will have iron. Even a water softener will not remove all the minerals in the water. Let the dogs swim and have fun
