Rock Cut Draft Test

Anyone going to the draft test October 13 at Rock Cut State Park in Rockford? This will be a first for me. I have never seen anything like this before. Hoping to gain some knowledge and get my Newfie fix!

Kelly,
I'm planning on going. This is the first Newfy event for me, so I'm really excited!
Does anyone know if you can bring your dogs just to watch?

Hi Janet
Glad to hear you are coming!!
I'm not a member of the regional club...and this is only my second Newf event I have attended by them, so I'm not sure if you can bring spectator dogs or not. I'm thinking I read somewhere that you can...I can e-mail someone and ask if you'd like. I can't wait to go! We'll have to meet up with one another there. How many Newfs do you have?

I just sent my application to become a member of the regional club. I think I also read that you can bring spectator dogs.
I only have one Newf, but also have a Pyr, so you probably won't be able to miss me. I'll be walked by one big white dog, and one big black and white dog!!
I had e-mailed the rescue person that I adopted my Newfy from, to see what I could do to help the rescue organization, and she told me I'd need to become a member first. I'm thinking of becoming a foster home for Newfys ( If I'm qualified). I'm not sure what would be required to become a foster home.
Let's be sure to meet, I'd love to find another Newfy lover in my area. I'm so jealous of the other folks that are able to get together. Everyone I know thinks I'm nuts to have these 2 huge dogs. They just don't understand I get HUGE amounts of love and affection from them !!

My Mom thinks that I am off my rocker for wanting a Newf. She keeps questioning WHY I would want such a huge furry dog. I told her it's all her fault. When we were little and wanted a dog, they brought home a poodle! We wanted a BIG dog. She told us when we have homes of our own we can have as many and as big of dogs as we want. And she thinks I never listened to her! My sister now has 2 labs and a Mastiff puppy...so she listened too.
I think you'll find people from the Chicago area at the event. There were a few of them last year at the Ecucation day. Who knows...there might be one that's just around the corner from you!
I'll be in touch...

Hi ladies,
I'm originally from the suburbs of chicago and my parents met in Rockford. My sister lives in rockford and numerous cousins and aunts and uncles etc..any ways I was thinking about driving down myself if I had a litle more imfo on exactly where the event is taking place. Thought I'd bring my sister along to show her the Big Dog life. She is westhighland terrior nut! If any of you have the specifics on when and where let me know. I would love to see a nother newf besides Maggie. She's the only one in my small town!

Since I don't know how to post a link...the address for Rock Cut State Park is 7318 Harlem Rd, Loves Park, IL...you can get a map off of Mapquest or some other map site off the internet. It starts at 8am and I'm not sure when it's over. (Sometime in the afternoon) once you get in the park there will be signs posted on where to go. I think their signs are black Newfie cutouts, so it should be easy to find. Potluck lunch. I'm making some calls today and will get more specifics. I'll pass them on when I get them.
Looking forward to meeting you and your puppers!

I wish I could help with directions, but I have no sense of direction myself, which is why I'm bringing my sister! I'm counting on Mapquest to get us there!
The only person in my area that I know of with Newfs, has three, and two smaller dogs. The smaller dogs live in the house, while the Newfs live outside. I don't understand why she has these dogs if they're going to be outside all the time, and not with the family. So, I've never taken the time to get to know her.
The women from rescue that I adopted Maddie from is possibly going to be there as well, so I'm really excited to have her see Maddie. It's been 4 months since she's seen her (except pictures).
I'll keep my fingers crossed that we are all able to find the park, and if I get any good directions, I'll let you know !!

If you let me know the highway you're coming in on, I just purchased a Rockford map, and I can hopefully
give you directions on how to get there! My husband who works in Rockford did nothing but confuse me on how to get there, so I told him to forget it, I'll figure it out myself! LOL

I just looked at map of rockford and it looks like loves park is just a few miles from my sisters house! I travel to rockford a couple times a year so i'm familer with the area.
Now hopefully I'll be able to get away from here to come down to join the fun!

My sister just wrote and said that if you are coming from the chicago area to hop on I-90 west untill you come to the Riverside Blvd west exit which is 3 exits she believes into the rockford area. She says you are then about 2 miles from rockcut park. She said there are a couple entrances into the park but should be clearly marked.Maybe coming from freeport you could get onto I-90 south and find the same exit. Hope this helps
