Retract a gate

I keep the dogs confined to the kitchen when I go out and during the night. We've decided to make the entrance from the kitchen to the Dining room wider (64 inches) so I ordered one of these mesh gates that expands to 72 ". It came today and now I'm wondering if it is going to be sturdy enough. Cash jumps on the regular pressure gate..and can push it over..but I am hoping that with the mesh being softer, he won't try that. Anyone have any experience with these gates??

Hmmm.....no. I got one of those metal gates with a walk through "gate" type thing, after Molly demolished my wooden one, and then promptly peed on my living room (white) carpet....and Cole assisted by ripping apart my (inside) screen on my Pella doors. It's higher, and white, and has to be mounted with screws. Our opening to the LR is about 6'. These can be extended to 13' if necessary.

They claim the mesh is claw proof. I don't think mine will scratch it..but just concerned about the strength of it when they all put their big heads over it and lean. They are fine most of the time..but if the door bell rings..or someone comes in and i have them locked up..that is when they try and get out. I guess I'll give it a try. I really like the idea of having it roll back when not in use..which is when ever we are home. We won't be installing it until after the guy opens up the wall...which won't be for a few weeks. Now I am just using a pressure gate.

We installed 36 inch x-pen panals across 1/3 of our dining room--using concrete stregth butterfly clips in the wall. It worked for us, but at 7-8 mos he was able to figure out that leaning on the gate/door part and lean on it would sometimes open it. There's a little clip there, but it was challenging to attach all the time. But when it was clipped, he couldn't get it open.

On the flip side. The panels folded up neatly, and leaned against the wall when not in use.

I think it was an okay solution, but helped to keep him in his space for a good while.
