Rescuing Puppies

Recently D'Artagnan and I joined a retriever group at a local swim hole. D'Artagnan quickly wore out his welcome when he kept 'rescuing' a four month old golden. I tried to stop him, but it was a cold, wet, rainy day and nobody but the dogs were actually in the water. It was funny because the retrievers would bring sticks to me, but my newfie would take the sticks and hide them away where nobody could throw them back in the water. He would look at me like - 'How dare you keep drowning that stick I just rescued!'

So how DO we keep D'Artagnan from rescuing perfectly able bodied retriever pups?! This was his second incident?! :D

I have no ideas to help you, but

Sorry.

That's just to funny. I have heard of this tendancy. Of newfies not wanting to let their kids in the family pool, etc.

My biggest obstacle in training Linsey for water is she thought I shouldn't be out in the water. To this day if she's on the shore and I'm out in the water helping others she's watching like a hawk and will yelp and whine from the sidelines and in a few cases come right on out if she's not put up in a crate.

Let me put it this way she has her WD and WRD and I was the handler and I hope my next one has got that strong working ability. When it's directed the right way they're joys to train. :D
