Recovery time neutering

 Question about neutering???

If a male newf is neutered at two years old.
What can i expect for recovery time on average.
I know some dogs pain tolerance is more than others just like us.
Also when are the stitches gone? How many stitches do they usually get?
Are the stitched internal, and external as well?
How long do they have to stay out of the water and no swimming or can they still?
When on average can they get back into obedience training?
Last what did you pay $$$ for a 130lb newf to get neutered?
Does your vet go by weight or age for difference in price?

Oliver is 2, and he was neutered almost 2 weeks ago. Apparently somebody forgot to tell him, because he was ready to play the second he came home! I confined him to his crate for the first couple days, not 24 hours a day, but enough to keep him calm. He was on pain meds for a few days afterwards. He didn't lick his incision that much, either. He had dissolvable stitches, so we didn't need to go back.

I kept an eye on his incision, and the vet said to keep him "calm" for at least a week. Oliver listened for about 2 days. I know he's fine right now, and it's not been a full 2 weeks yet.

Our vet bill was not just for the neutering we had to have him updated on all his shots. Our bill was $370, the surgery itself was about $170, but we had him microchipped, and everything else. He weighed 98lbs for surgery.

Gabe was neutered last week. His sutures were the disolving type so no removal is necessary. The first night he still was pretty groggy from the anesthesia. The second night he cried a little. Since that 2nd day after the surgery he appears to feel fine. He has not had any interest in chewing, licking or otherwise bothering the incision site so he didn't need the cone or any type of covering on it.

Our total bill for the neutering procedure and the antibiotics was around $350 (Canadian). He has been taking antibiotics because he had a skin infection from his allergies and the doctor didn't want him to risk any infection at the surgery site.

He's eager to get back out for our daily walks but we are following the doctor's orders to keep him quiet as possible for the first 10 days. So in two more days we'll be all back to normal, though to see him you'd not know he wasn't tip top now.

I'm not sure about all vets, but I think frequently the difference in price has a lot to do with the weight of the dog (or cat too for that matter) as to the amount of anesthesia required. Anesthesia can be very pricey part of the procedure.

Gabe weighed 120 for the surgery.

My little guy Zacc was just neutered two months ago. He was 20 months old and weighed 123lbs. We did some research and found several programs that helped defray the cost of the neutering. Here in the US there are several federalprograms to pay all or some of the cost and a few state run programs. In New Hampshire, where we live, we found a program called Plan B that we qualified for, which paid for everything except $25.

We dropped him off on Tuesday and picked him up the next day. The minute he saw us he looked and acted like nothing had happened. The hardest part of his entire neutering experience was trying to keep him quiet for the full 10 days after surgery because he was ready to play from day one. Zacc was not that interested in licking or bothering his stitches or incision so we didn't even have that to worry about. He wasn't allowed to swim for 10 days because he had the dissolving stitches.

One piece of advice that I recieved from someone here on Newf Net, which was very helpful was to not do the "scrotal sac removal" because "The sac has a LOT of vasculature and there is a LOT of bleeding if it is removed. It will look strange afterwards, but I promise, it will shrink up."

Good Luck
