does anyone have any pos/neg experience with a raw diet helping skin and coat problems. In general I am thinking about starting a raw diet for Oz, his coat is in a sad state, and he now refuses to eat anything that has inflight in it ( Sorry Lynn!)

He definitely is missing something in his diet. His coat is gorgeous on his back and chest, but on his legs, especially the hind legs, and belly it is coarse, few guard hairs and patchy.
any info from peope who feed raw is much appreciated and feel free to pm me.
Thanks!

Sorry, I can't help you with advice as far as the raw diet is concerned..but wanted to suggest that you may want to try Nupro as a supplement. Hogan is on that because he is allergic to Inflight. I have noticed quite a difference in his coat since he has been on it. Maybe Ozzie would like the taste of that.

Mira and our Goldens are on Nupro too...no problems so far.

There's also a product out there called Dynamite, that a lot of show (and other) people use. In fact they have many products. I believe the Ididerod dogs are on it.
Here's the link: Dynamite Supplements

There's another one too...that I can't remember the name of. Sorry!

I have had wonderful results with coat and allergy issues on a raw diet. I feed no grains, which are the main allergins for dogs (and people, too...when it's food allergies...)

There are lots of great raw resources , most of which have been mentioned in previous posts here. Please check the archives...

My coat/skin experiences are with my cat and raw has worked wonders for her. Stoli has a beautiful really shiny coat that everyone compliments but he's been on raw since he was 9 weeks old. PhD products web page has a product called Radiance that worked wonders for a GSD I know. Have you tried just adding some fish oil and flax oil? Good luck!

WE have both Kylie and Duncan on raw and they have wonderful coats...very shiny and soft...I really think raw food is great and the dogs love it.

It sounds to me like the areas that are coarse are the areas that might have been shaved when Ozzie had his surgeries. If this so, it tkaes along time for that fur to grow back normally if at all.

These areas were the same prior to surgery. I was actually pretty excited at how well it was growing in after the surgeries, much thicker than before, but now, especially the first leg which was shaved in febuary is right back to the same pre-surgery condition. the vet felt it was allergies, i feel it could be that or a combo of allergies and something deficient in his diet.
