ramps

Just wondered if any of you have ramps for your Newfies so they don't have to jump in and out of your pickups? I take Ben with me wherever we go because we have a large pickup with a canopy, and of course he loves it. We built him a ramp so he wouldn't have to jump, he is only 9 months old, and I know how hard on his joints that would be. The problem is this...the ramp keeps shrinking on a daily basis, you see Ben gets hungry when we are driving down the road, and he's having his ramp for lunch.
This ramp is getting quite narrow, and it isn't going to be safe for him to use much longer, I'm afraid of him falling off it. So just wondered if anyone else has built anything or bought anything for their furry friends?

Woo hoo Bridget, bad, bad, bad girl! :) Just kidding.

I have an easy step ramp for my dogs. Molly is still frightened of it so I entice her with cookies. The pregger, Caroline, needs it and uses it happily. One Golden uses it, one laughs at it and jumps in.

All in all, I'm glad I have it. Linda

Hahaha!

What do y'all think of the "Twiststep" offered in Newf Rescue's boutique?

Mary, just wondering where you came across your telescopic ramp? I am in Canada, so not sure that I can get them here, but it sure sounds like it would do the trick. Ben also has this not so narrow gait. And to think his father is actually in agility...(LOL)
so far it's not a genetic thing.

Just a warning. The ramp I bought worked great for about a 1 1/2 years, but it then cracked. My dog isn't THAT big (140 pounds). It might be my fault. I store the ramp in the bed of my truck, where it's exposed to the weather. If you buy this ramp, you might want to store it in the house or garage ...

Shoot! I like the telescoping ramp so much better than the one I have. (petstep). It is a hassle opening, locking, etc. when you have 4 dogs who all want to get out first. The telescope just slides out. The carpeting is a better idea too. Not to mention I paid close to twice the price for mine. shoot!

I just bought one of the dogramp.com ramps to replace the PetStep ramp that broke. So far, I'm very happy with the DogRamp.com version. Seems more stable, and Xena seems more confident when she climbs up it.

Madcap, would you say it's easier to use than the pet step? It looks it to me. Did you have the 1 piece petstep or the one that opened and had bars that locked? I do like using the petstep... it's better than no ramp. But it is awkward trying to get it open and set up.

Is it easier to open than the petstep?

Thanks, Linda

I had the PetStep that opened and had bars that locked. The DogRamp is much easier to deploy. It feels a little bulkier than the PetStep, though. Overall, I like it much better.

Thanks madcap, now all I need to do is convince hubby that I really need a second ramp???? Not likely. I'm finding I'd rather leave the bulky petstep home and help my kids in myself. I'll figure out a way around hubby eventually.
