What's your opinions??? Was thinking of getting raised bowls as my newfy is going to be 1 year but heard it was actually bad.

So, are you saying NOT to have raised food & water bowls for your newfs? I didn't really understand that article. Please let me know because I do have my dogs food raised, so please help me with this....Thank you

OK, I'm confused too. I heard a raised bowl was good for large breeds, less consumption of air or something like that while they're eating. Bubba is eating/drinking out of a raised bowl. Does this mean he should stop?

I'm glad I am not the only one that is confused now about this, I hope someone that really knows can help us all with this question. Thanks again!

The great bowl debate has been going on for ages

There are a great many people that don't put much stock into this recent study, folks that have been raising large breeds for many many years.
And then there are folks that do put much stock into it.
Talk to your vet, read as much info as you can, and there is a lot of info out there, and make your own decision.
I personally think there is so much more that comes into play besides the height of the dish.
Gracie's dish is raised about 5 inches. She eats more comfortably. She bloated at 3-4 months of age, and her dish wasn't raised but an inch LOL
Thankfully she didn't twist and the next couple incidents were remedied with a tube.
At 6 months she was spayed, and had a gastropexy done.

I think there may be another thread here about the great bowl debate...?

I did check with my vet, having used raised bowls for some time and then reading that article.

She said that she had never told me to raise the bowls in the first place and to get rid of them...

I use raised bowls. Have for years. I guess it is like a ford and a chevy--which ever you like best.

WOW! I can't believe that there is so much confusion about whether to raise them or not? One vet says yes, one says no, who do you listen to?

Our golden ate out of raised bowls for 10 years with no problems. Kodi has been eating from them since he was 6 months old. I guess it's whatever you're comfortable with using.

The main reason I use a raised bowl is because my breeder told me that a pups legs can get bowed from bending over to eat. I am not convinced there is a relationship between the raised feeder and bloat.

Brady eats from a raised bowl, he just looks more comfortable. Of course we originally got them because of the great bloat debate but now he just prefers to raised bowls. Even when we are camping we put the bowl on the seat of the picnic table because he won't eat (kind of spoiled, huh?)
