Emma is 11 yrs old and the rabies vaccine was due last month. We live in a rabies free place but go to Washington State frequently so in order to come back into Canada she needs proof of rabies shots.
Does anyone know if there is more danger in vaccinating at the age of 11?
Rabies vaccination is not law in Canada but she has always had the vaccine up till now.
Thanks

Angela, we have problems with rabies here in NJ and laws requiring rabies vaccines. I've vaccinated all of mine, usually every 2 years, even kept my 14 1/2 yr old Newfs up to date. They've never had a problem with the vaccination, but YOU might if you try to cross the border without having proof of vaccination. It's not worth taking a chance. Heard of someone who had to really fight to keep from having her dog put down when it SCRATCHED, not bit, someone and was 2 weeks late having its shot. Lynne

I also have had a 12 year old Newf who was kept up to date on all his shots with no problems. I never minded taking him in yearly since it gave the vet and I a chance to talk about how he was aging. It helps if you have a vet who has an interest in geriatics. Mine did and I felt that if he thought it was a danger to my dog he would have told me so.
