price of rooms at nationals

Hi everyone,
In case you don't know it yet the Great Lakes Newf club has posted all the info for the Nationals on their website. www.glnewfclub.com I have never attended a national before, but I was shocked at the price of the rooms. They start at $129.80 and go up from there. If you go to the Inn's webpage the rooms start at Sun-Thur $99 and Fri-Sat $139. Anyway I called all the other hotels listed on the Frankenmuth webpage and I found only one that will accept dogs. The Drury Inn. I can get a 2 room suite for $88.99 per night. It also includes free contential breakfast. It is 1/2 mile from the Barvarian Inn. The only drawback is you cannot leave the dog unattended in the rooms. For those that have been to a National's before is it worth staying at the hosting lodge? Will we miss mingling with other Newfie people at the lodge? Let me know. I can pay $129.80 per night, but then $88.99 sounds so much better. I want our first nationals to be real exciting and I would hate to miss on a lot of fun activites to save $41 per night.

Jeannie, I much prefer staying at the host hotel, if possible. It's easier to run in to check the dogs, more convenient for the events, easier to socialize. I'd rather pay more and be on the site! Haven't been to each one, but my first National was 1974.

I'm frankly shocked at the price of the rooms: I would have thought that a full booking in the first week of April would have qualified for a substantial discount off normal pricing.
