Pool and Vinyl liner

Hello Everyone

We will be possibly purchasing a house that has an inground pool. Balli's dream come true with a slight glitch...the pool has a vinyl liner. Between Balli and our Golden I think it would be cruel to not let them swim. Do any of you have experience with dogs swimming in vinyl lined pools?

The pool is fenced off and the dogs would not have access to it unless they were supervised. It does have inground stairs leading from the pool Some friends of ours with pools use a nylon over the the basket to catch the furballs...do any of you do this?

We've had the dogs in swimming pools before and once they know where the stairs are they simply go in or jump in, swim around, then use the stairs to exit. When they swim they tend to go right in the middle. This pool is 20'x40' so it's pretty big. I also read a previous post about keeping they're nails filed down...wonder if this helps

This has been a dream for both of us to find a house with a pool for the dogs..our kids :D Finding out that it was a vinyl liner kinda put a kabosh on it

Any input would be great! Thanks!

We have an inground pool with vinyl liner and inground steps. We let our newfs go swimming and haven't had a problem.

We don't let them swim without supervision (just like kids). The inground steps help to protect the liner when they are entering and leaving the pool. We use high quality pool chemicals and haven't had any coat or skin issues. There are special bags you can put over the skimmer filter to catch the pet fur from the pool. Their fur tends to collect at the bottom of the pool and we can simply skim it out. We have to be more dilligent about checking the main filter and the filter to the pump to clear out any fur that may have collected there. It doesn't happen too often but it's better to be safe than sorry.

We now open our pool much earlier and close our pool much later than most people in Michigan so our fur babies can enjoy the water as much as possible. They love it. Good luck with your decision!

I have had a vinyl lined pool for 16 years. Four dogs use it - almost no humans. I use the skimmer liners to catch the hair and have only had to have the filter sand replaced once. My girls have unlimited access, and they drink out of it and swim when they get hot. When the Labs are here they love to fetch sticks from the pool. Echo does her "cow in pond" immitation, and everybody is happy. As long as the dogs are trained to use the steps, all will be fine. Only problem I have is that I finally decided to clip Echo, because it takes her so long to dry. She may get in 3-4 times a day, and she begins to milldew -- but again that's with unlimited access.
Oh, and just because there are few humans doesn't mean they can't get in -- my kids just grew up and moved. BTW The pool opens this weekend!!!

keep on saying you have no problems with the pools ...my husband wants to get a pool this year and says "NO DOGS"..(yea right) he is afraid of rips tears and filter problems....If you all don't mind I am going to keep printing out this thread to convince him there will be no problems as long as we take care of it. Thanks!!

Oh and there will be no way he will be able to keep the girls out unless he errects a six foot fence around it...even them they will get in...where there is a will there is a way...lol

We were swimming in our pool last Saturday. It is inground with a vinyl liner, and we have not had any problems. Our daughters Golden is always pawing at the sides, which I try to stop with no success, but it hasn't hurt it yet. We also use something over the skimmer to keep the hair from going into the filter. We use Mineral Springs due to my alergies, and it is like rain water.
