FDA recommends avoiding all pistachio products until they can figure out where these went:

Pistachios Recalled Due to Salmonella Contamination
Setton Pistachio of California is recalling one million pounds of its products because of salmonella contamination, the FDA announced late Monday.
The pistachios have been used as ingredients in various foods. Accordingly, federal officials recommend that for now, consumers avoid all pistachio products.
Illnesses that may be associated with the nuts have been reported, but a link has not been confirmed.

First peanuts, now pistachios? I'm sure it won't be quite the product recall impact on consumers that the contaminated peanuts have had, but makes you wonder about the safety of any product out there now.

Guess it's a good time to not mind being allergic to nuts (peanuts are okay, they aren't nuts..)

Hmmm, I just polished off a bag of pistachios. First time I've ever bought any in my life. Wouldn't ya know! Oh well, they didn't kill me (yet), so I guess you're stuck with me for a while longer...

Yep ... I got a recorded phone call from Costco because I had bought affected pistachios there. Too bad it was in December or January or something. Those pistachios are LONG gone.

Had some pistachios (mixed nuts) Monday afternoon on our weekly visit with the next door neighbor for gin martinis. No problem here. Maybe the gin killed the germ? :)

I will have to make sure the neighbor knows, especially before she serves a new can.

I'm still working myself back into eating all foods after a bout of diverticulitis. DH took me to lunch on Monday, and what did I get - chicken salad with pistachio nuts (I love them). Had stomach problems, but not bad, all night. Tuesday AM I find out about the recall. Expected to be back in the hospital, but nothing. Next, I'm going to have a real salad for lunch today (haven't had one for a month and have really been missing them) - so expect a lettuce recall tomorrow.

I hate to confess - Love the pistachios, usually buy a small, in shell bag about once a month. I was getting my craving.... not anymore, thanks for the info.

The nuts may have been contaminated, but I heard it was a voluntary recall, which means no illness was reported prior to the recall. As far as I remember, the nuts may have been contaminated by Listeria bacteria, which mostly affects those with compromised immune systems or pregnant women. So for the most part normal people are safe. I was worried about our recall that happened up here while I was pregnant.. thank goodness I don't really eat coldcuts for the mostpart...

I believe i'm mixing this recall up with another one that happened up here recently... oops..
