Panda and worms

Jeannie,

I took Fezzik to the vet today to have his check up on the worms (adults are dead and so are many of the babies. He got the second shot for the babies and should be clear in a couple of weeks). I mentioned Panda's worms to him and he said to make sure that your vet breaks up the initial shots. Apparently for the dose size for a Newf he had to break it up into six injections to try to keep the soreness down (he said that he used a long needle to get deep into the back muscles). For him he gave him three shots on each side of his spine. Even with that Fezzik was having problems standing up and laying down for about 1.5 weeks (he's bouncing around now). He said that if he tried to do it in just two spots he might still be in pain.

If you remind me in Indy I can show you what I'm talking about. Also I'm sure that if you want my vet would be happy to talk with your vet (he said that there isn't a whole lot of case info out there on Newfs with worms (or any other big dogs) and had to really dig to get the information).

Greg,
Thanks for the tip. My vet did say something about a shot then waiting 24-36 hours for the next shot. Then quiet for 30 days and another shot to kill the babies. This is simular to the way Sara was treated, but Sara's injection was IV not IM. How things change in 3 1/2 years. I will talk to you on the 24th
